See what i did there… I used the name of the program intertwined with our experience with using it… Excellent start to the post…I had hoped here would include a link to our completed video, alas the youtube upload target has not been reached. perhaps next tuesday.

It wasn’t really a catastrophe either… As a group we managed to agree on a common theme based upon an amalgamation of three readings, though predominantly from callum’s (Michael Bull (2005). No Dead Air! The iPod and the Culture of Mobile Listening. Leisure Studies. Vol. 24(4), pp343-55) and ned’s (Miriam Simun (2009). My music, my world: using the MP3 player to shape experience in London. New Media & Society, Vol. 11(6), pp921-41) reading about Ipod’s subversion of the public space.MY reading about Mp3′s as cultural artifacts (Jonathan Sterne (2006). The Mp3 as cultural artefact. New Media & Society, Vol. 8(5), pp825-42), while interesting, was not overly applicable to the video we were trying to create. In fact i think the voice overs i did in regards to my reading were cut from the final product..IT’s ok though, I’m like totally the lead role in the film..

During editing, Ned’s experience from a previous paper was invaluable in the editing process as he clearly had a greater understanding of the Final Cut program than the rest of us. I spent my time levelling voice overs on audacity, ready to be placed alongside images that relate to the content of each voice over. While the final product was nothing overly special in terms of content and cinematography, it was nice to do some hands on work in relation to our weekly readings.

We found that our greatest enemy was in fact the time constraint of class, as some of our ideas for the structure of the clip would take to long to produce. Despite this, the chance to make even a small movie has spurred talks of a group digital assignment using final cut and video technology, it is still at the brainstorming stage currently but may have overtaken my desire to make a podcast.

geee willikers batman i love this program! Granted not with its intended usage as a podcasting medium but isn’t that the cool thing about it? the multiplicity of usages a user can get from a piece of software? So rad that its freeware also, and I’m sure with time my love for podcasting will grow also, having already decided to make a podcast for my digital project…

What got me instantly hooked on Audacity is that the software reads almost any audio file, many a mix can be created with samples from anything I can think of… This not only fills my mind with possibilities, but brings a distinct warmth to my heart that university might yet produce an assignment that I will enjoy creating.

I want to give a special thanks to the podcasting fellow (sorry cannot remember your name) who came in and explained the basic ins and outs of the software, it was very helpful and made the decision on which digital project to do very easy.

But as i was off to wellington after this first half of class i did not engage with a reading this week, such is my ramblings about audacity.. I feel it is warranted in this instance as my love for the software is clearly apparent..

I shall exit on a high, with the two song E.p from a collaboration of Burial and four tet (look out for four tet’s new album “There is love in you… sooo good!) Moth has to be one of my favourite low fi electronic songs out at the moment.

http://hypem.com/track/1028751/Burial+Four+Tet+-+Moth

http://hypem.com/track/817756/Burial+Four+Tet+-+Wolf+Cub

toodles for now..

Yes Yes I realise I haven’t been terribly on point with regular posting, I find this blog writing terribly difficult. Nevertheless I shall press forth with the entry today in special regards to my experience with the Stefanie Panke and Birgit Gaiser reading from week 2.

Here Panke and Gaiser present an analysis of the web 2.0 feature of social tagging, though perhaps more specifically and interestingly, they present the adoption of social tagging from a predominantly German perspective… I felt this was a nice change from the American analysis we so often read.

From the reading, aspects I found to be most intriguing were the four definitive groups they classed the users of social tagging within: The Ego Taggers- those who are the information elite, tagging to show other people what they are looking at and fishing for a positive response. I have like twenty of the people as facebook friends who post different video clips, music and articles everyday in the hopes of self promotion…I am indifferent to these people, sometimes they post good stuff, sometimes I make witty comments about their post to bring them back to earth… I am prone to being one of these people on occasion haha

The Everyday Archivers- These are people who use tagging as a genuine tool to archive their personal information as an easy way to retrieve it without storing it on their own computer. A fine utilization of the tagging function, congruent with its intended usage I believe. This I have no problem with.. tag away archivers!

The Broadcasters- I appreciate the intentions of these social taggers, who are simply trying to share information with a larger network, to convey a message and the like…not fishing for compliments or self-affirmation. But simply tagging informatively so as to enlighten the masses with what they deem interesting…Cool as.

Finally the Team Players – These social taggers want to exchange information within their own personal network. These people would probably be more inclined to tag things with more colloquial type tags that would be understood and easily retrievable by those within their personal network both within and outside the computer space. I see a lot of Face Book within this… I geuss I also fall within this category.

Other interesting points raised about social tagging by Panke and Gaiser highlight social taggings ability to be a fully customizable filing system, writing that it is “more personal, for a collective”. Tags also allow digital content to be stored in multiple systems, giving it a huge amount of flexibility, it is this aspect plus the fact it can fluctuate between a personal collection and a medium of collaboration.

Overall i found this reading and consequent presentation to be interesting if unnecessarily long (wayyyy to much information from their research is given). I came away with a new perspective on social tagging and will definitely think about the type of tagger i want to be perceived as when tagging next time. ciao

hello people! Welcome to brainfeeding, where one attempts to feed their respective brain. What is brainfeeding you say? well the name is based upon the current prevalence of an L.A sound permeating from the brainfeeder label and low end theory night. Artists following in the footsteps of flying lotus are popping up everywhere, providing an amalgamation of both hip hop and electronic elements of beat production, and are ultimately changing the face and sound of music… However… this will have limited relevance to the blog itself, i just thought i should explain the slightly abstract name..

examples of sound

http://www.undomondo.com/alarm/ebc003_shlohmo_07_ghosts_pt._2.mp3

shlohmo age 19 from L.A most talked about new producer.

http://thefmly.com/2009/04/11/hypegeniusflood-metaphorically-representing-410-the-echoplex/

check the Fly Lo tracks at the end of post.

Now…This is the first blog i have ever created so i am not quite sure what to write in my initial entry..i guess this blog will encompass my response to and experience with the interactive aspects of the 712 course. But i am one to wander aimlessly so this will probably deteriorate slightly into a music discussion mixed with various aspects of the course. feel free t comment with witty remarks and helpful tips as to how i could make this blog better.. also any music you feel i must listen to would be greatly appreciated.

ciao for now
